Questions about Enzymes

Based on the genetic mutations my daughter has, the CF clinic said she would no doubt have pancreatic issues. She was started on enzymes at 8 days old.

She is now 5 weeks old. Recently they tested her poop and she has pancreatic insufficiency. They told us it is exactly what they had suspected, but it is still hard to hear.

Here are my questions to you:

Does your child take enzymes? How many with each meal?
What type/brand of enzymes do they take?
What age did they start taking them?
How old is your child now?

Thanks~
Marla

Marla,
My daughter will be 5 next week and takes 3 enzymes with meals. She wasn't diagnosed with CF until a little over 3. Before Dx she had a lot of digestive issues.

Katy takes 3 Creon 10's with meals and 1 to 2 with snacks depending on the fat content of the snack.
She started at age 3 years and 3 months, upon diagnosis (she was dx'd due to digestive issues)
She is now 4 years 7 months old.

They have made all the difference in the world for her. She is gaining weight and doesn't have horrible cramping, grease floating in the toilet (sorry if TMI), like she used to. She also takes a Prevacid solutab every morning, which also makes a huge difference (supresses acid so that the enzymes have a better chance of making it to the small intestine).

So digestive enzymes are a good thing! She can swallow them whole now and would be able to dose herself (as to how many she needs) if she had to.
