I just wanted to post for anyone who lives in NJ.. I am sure other states have similiar things but anyway.....Last August I went to a Cf center for the first time... and the social worker there gave me information on available state programs to help defray some of the costs of my co pays...
I have really put off doing anything with it because honestly I felt bad taking any help because my CF is mild and other ppl are not in as good as situations I am...and I haven't had to go without any medicine thanks to my parents paying for it. for me....
Anyway.....I decided to call them recently and I am automatically approved for help... All my prescription co pays will be paid for by them. THey also help cover any costs that are not covered by insurance for at home IVS.. which is all I want to do from this point on if I can....In adddition they help you get any durable medical equipment that you need such as air purifyers, percussors, and O2 supplies.... They also will supply your vitamins free of charge... and they give me a $120 a month check to buy nutritious food.....or supplements.....They also can give you up to $500.00 a year in financial assistance for other things...
I have to use Pathmark to get my food as well as my prescriptions.. but that is easy...The application process is not to hard.. I just needed to show my insurance, proof of income.. which by the way you can make up to 40,000 a year and still qualify. My CF doctor also has to fill out some paper work and that is it..... Pretty cool....It will take a few months to come into play but... it looks great
The organization is www.njsocf.org. If anyone wants to contact them feel free and maybe they can tell you if their is a program like that in your state. Also as a side note... anyone who is looking to buy a home or get into an apartment their are also some programs available to help you.. I was just accepted into the low to moderate income housing and am on a waiting list.. I called the county I wanted to buy a home in... and each county is required by law to supply housing for low to moderate incomes.. I can make up 43,000 a year as a single person and still qualify..... Now when housing comes up in an area that I want to buy in.. I can qualify for real low mixed mortgage rates....they also have apartments as well..
Thought I would pass the information along,
Jennifer
