My two year old son has been having allot of issues with rectal prolapse and it just seems to be getting worst, I was just wondering if any kids have had the corrective surgery or any feedback on what things have been done for it.

He was in the hospital and they did a clean out, now he is on miralax and thats what he has been on long term it just doesnt seem to be helping any longer.

Thanks!

Graycie had that also, they didn't do anything about it as long as it went back in. I really have no answers for you other then to say that it was very scary for us to see it the first time. The doctors told us that they usually will not do anything about it unless it doesn't go back in by itself.

Hi there...my son had rectal prolapse many times as a 2-3 year old.
His doctor sent him to a surgeon, who did the surgery that kind of adheres the rectal muscles back inside. He never has had it again.

I hope you can find some answers....

Oh goodness- I cannot believe they are telling you there is nothing they can do. Who told you this- his general ped? His cf dr? They can reduce it for you at the hospital. That is terrible that your son is hurting this way. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> My dd has had rectal prolapse- never to this degree though- it's always gone back in on it's own. She saw a surgeon for it twice and we determined that she did not need the surgery that Jada mentioned above. They told me that if it ever did not go back in on it's own, to try to push it back in, if I couldn't, to immediately get her to the hospital and they COULD reduce it and they would reconsider the need for the corrective surgery.

I would take him to the hospital (a different hospital if it was the hospital emergency room telling you they couldn't help you) and get an 2nd opinion (tell them it's an emergency) with a reputable pediatric surgeon for this. I hate hearing how much pain he is in!

eta> they can do the procedure Jada mentioned above, there is also a procedure they can do involving the outlet muscles of the rectum/anus. A thorough exam by a ped surgeon who knows what they are doing can help determine the source of the problem with your son and which procedure would be most helpful.

dd had it many times before she was diagnosed. It always went back in. It was very scary and her ped used to say dd was constipated. Miralax helped a little bit. Once she started taking enzymes she never had it again. No advice here, but hope you get answers soon. I hate to see our kids hurting.

Thank you everyone your comments are so helpful and it was the surgeon and the GI team the was fighting against corrective surgery. I would have never asked for something to be done except in his situation it happens so often and it comes out and the Docs cant even reduce it and they still dont seem to want to do anything except keep the stools soft thats what they keep saying well at this point they are like water and it is stuck out. I am waiting on GI to get feedback from him if Ii goes no where then we will be heading to the hospital this afternoon.
