Reflux?

You can control it to a certain point with diet, but I know for me that a lot of meds create issues. Often times its so subtle that we dont know it until things like the chronic cough with no other symptoms present.

I read in a pamplet at my new local doctors how for asmtha patients they are prescribing meds for reflux to help lower the need of attacks &/or meds.

CFers have been doing this for awhile.....

I was almost going to post the same exact thing last week. I had lost my voice, I had an increased cough, and my acid reflux was killing me! I am already on Nexium 40mg twice a day and I'm just not sure what else they can do for it. I was taking the maximum amount of Tums as well on top of that and it still wouldn't take the pain away. So, I completely stopped drinking all soda, coffee, and juice and drank only milk for two days. I also stayed away from tomato-based and spicy foods. My reflux is not bothering me anymore, my voice is back, and my cough is gone. You don't realize how much it can affect you, but it really does.

Those of us who are pancreatic insufficient actually lack bicarbonate, which helps naturally reduce acid in our stomach.

So many CFer's, despite not eating a few hours before bed, no caffine, mints, alcohol or spicy foods, yadi yadi yadi still have reflux. There's something no or not enough bicarbonate in our stomaches.

SO..... you can start taking your med twice a day (ask for doc's guidance but many of us, including myself, take our proton pump inhibitors [PPI] 2x a day); you can also make sure you're taking your PPI ask directed which is 30 - 60 minutes before a meal. This increases the medications efficacy.

Finally, you can supplement with Zantac (ranitidine) for breakthrough symptoms.

If things continue to not go well, this could mean there might be a physical issue with your esophagus and an endoscopy from a gastro would be necessary.
