Replacing a mic-key button

Josh had his Bard button replaced with a mic-key. He is ready to have it replaced. We ordered the AMT mini-one (much smaller- thanks Tom) and wanted to make the switch. Does it have to be done by a dr. or is it ok to do at home?

Jane, Malora has a mic-key and she does them herself. She removes the water from one, pulls out the mic-key pops in a new one and fills it with new water. She keeps about 3 to 4 cc's in her depending on how it is fitting.

I have tried to do it at home, but that was when Alyssa's was pulled out and was out for over an hour, I couldn't get the new one in. So we needed a quick run to the ER. However, so long as it is planned, it should be an easy thing to do at home. Just make sure you have lots of surgical lube (most drug stores have generic of this very cheap) -- it should be easy.

I've done my own once. It was nerve-wracking because it was my first time, but I'm sure it'll only get easier. Be sure to use some water-based lubrication to make it easier to put the new one in.
