replacing the microvasive button with a mic-key

my 7 month old has a microvasive button, they are going to replace it with a mic-key. The one she has leaks because the anti-reflux valve is not working and the feeding tube attachment pops out.

The surgeon said they're basically going to just twist and pull until the button pops through, and its very uncomfortable so they prefer to do it under sedation in surgery. Just wondering how other people had theirs or their children's changed. I'm worried that they are going to tear somehting just yanking it out like that.

Removing the old button will hurt (thus pain meds) but shouldn't damage anything.

The button she has now has a flange on the inside that just keeps it from sliding out the hole. The only way to remove is to pull the flange through the hole, which involves some stretching/pulling. But hopefully she will be fine, I think the sedation is just for her comfort.

However, once it is out the MicKey as a 'balloon' on the inside. It is the size of the hole and slides right in, then you add water to inflate the balloon. Same to remove/change, remove water and it slides right out. We just replaced our son's on Tuesday and it took <10 min and he watched TV while we did it.
