Rib infection

Hello, everyone. I was in the emergency room on Monday. It was really hurting to breathe, so a friend took me in. They said my lungs look fine, and they thought I had some sort of rib infection. Has anyone else heard of this? Anyway, it is not serious they told me and it should go away on its own. They couldn't do anything for me except give me some pain killers. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this. Jarod22 with CF

Jarod,I had something happen to me that is similar. I was golfing one day and felt some pain in the middle of my chest. I went to work that night (midnights) and felt fine, when I woke up in the afternoon the pain was back, and a lot worse. I called my doctor and was told to double my pumicort dosage and my ventolin dosage. In two days I was back to normal and never did find out what the problem was, and I have never had it since.Dave 29 w/cf

Talk about some kick ass pain. The same thing happened to me about 6yrs ago. I wasn't feeling well, (no pain at this time) so I gave my docs a call. It had been going on for a few days at that point, so I figured I better get on top of it before it landed me in the hospital. I called them, and they gave me the option of coming to the clinic and getting evaluated for a possible hopitalization, or try oral antibodics and give them a call back in a few days. Of course I took the oral route. They prescribed Cipro and Tobi. I went and picked it up and took it as soon as I got home. A few hours later, it started hurting for me to breathe, and it just got worst. I tried to blow it off, I figured it was just gas, since i'm not one to complain much, but it only got worst. We'll to make a long story short, I went to the ER and they said I had (not sure on the spelling. had to change the "C" at the beginning to a "K" because the website edited it as a bad word) Kocksackies Virus AKA "the devils grip". They said that it results from irritation of the lining of the lungs, usually due to a bad lung infection, so I ended up the the hospital anyway. The pain eventually went away, but nothing they gave me eased the pain. The only thing that helped was sleep because I wasn't awake to feel it, which because of the pain, couldn't get much of. As you know, exercise is the key, so the more I exercised, the better it got. I was still sore from the pain for a few weeks, the big dog pain was gone. Tori 21 w/cf
