Robitussin

I have the common ailments of the flu. Aching, coughing, sniffling,
snorting, lightheadedness. You get the picture.

On my way home from work tonight I stopped by the drug store to get
some Robitussin. What can I say? It's what my parents gave me, and
I like the taste.

I know that CF patients can't have cough suppressants, but it's so
hard to find a flu medication WITHOUT suppressants.

They have Tussin PE that is a cough expectorant, but that only
attacks Stuffy nose and Chest congestion.
THEN they have Tussin Cough, Cold & Flu, and it covers Coughs,
Body aches/Fever, Headache, Stuffy nose, Runny nose, Sneezing,
Itchy watery eyes, Sore throat AND is a nighttime med. Wish is
EVERYTHING I need. BUT, it's a suppressant.

I ended up getting both PE and the Cough, Cold & Flu, so
I can get a good nights sleep at night, but have an expectorant the
next morning.
Is that bad? Should I deal with the other symptoms just to avoid
having a suppressant to help me sleep?

I hate to take a suppressant, but I need my sleep!

Sorry you're not feeling well. I usually always check with my dr. before I take anything. I think I have taken the Sudafed before. The last time I had the flu, he prescribed Tamiflu for me. Sorry I don't have much more info. Hope you find something that works for you!

I've taken cough medicine's plenty of times and sometimes I need that cough to be suppressed, especially if it's just an irritating cough and not productive.

My docs always told my parents to give me Robitussin CF (Cold and Cough) if I needed cough medicine. Odd coincidence it is CF and we have CF - for the longest time I thought they made it specifically for CF patients lol.

Robitussin CF (Cough and Cold) is a nasal decongestant, expectorant and suppressant all in one. Not sure how it gets expectorant and suppressant in the same med, but I take this (always have and always will) when I am feeling sick and need some relief.

To add, sometimes it can be hard to find because not every place that sells Robitussin sells Robitussin CF - I normally find it at WalMart here and at times Walgreens.

Well I've tried to avoid anything that had suppressants in it (and
yes, I was also trying to figure out HOW CF can have an expectorant
AND a suppressant). I did some studying and decided to not take the
flu meds, because of the suppressant. I feel loads better today
anyway so I guess I don't need to worry about it.

Thanks so much!

I personally know you arent suppose to take cough meds when your sick.. but if I get a hacking dry cough I do take it and it does help and I always use robitussin and in the morning i do have a expectorant the next morning but it sooner or later in the day goes away. It stinks when you want to sleep at night and you cant or you just fall asleep and your coughing wakes you up.
