Running vs Elipitical

My ??: Do you think the 'pounding' impact of running shakes loose more junk from the upper lobes that are so problematic? I think maybe it does unfortunately for me my knees dont appreciate it.


Reason for ??:
I used to run but my knees give me issues so they said quit or surgery so I quit.I am back to the gym alot now and getting in better shape and treadmill was calling my name. I 'jogged' on teusdy for 2 miles. I had much better clearance (it felt more hard when I got it up) afterward then when I do the eliptical which I really do intensely. I kept my HR the same as I wear a monitor all teh time.

I'm encountering the same problem. My knees give me issues after about 3 miles of running and even then I have to run every other day so they don't irritate more. I'm not sure the elliptical will ever be as good as running (for me), but it's easier on the knees and as long as I can keep myself breathing heavy it's sufficient. Another good one (probably better than running) is swimming but that gets a bit more complicated b/c it requires having access to a pool where you can do laps.

Hi...
Yes the running will get your knees - I had 5 knee surgeries - but I just go better running shoes and continue to run outdoors on a tartan track.

To me running indoors is a waste - if you can do it go outside and clear out your lungs!!!

I swim, too as I have mild scoliosis, and my knees and hips can't take running. I found access to an indoor pool at an unexpected place- a local community college! And I only pay around $140 a year - yes, a year <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> to swim there. The only drawbacks are the hours are restricted and it is closed between semesters for up to a month. During those times I usually walk.

But it is inexpensive, and most importantly, it is the only public indoor pool I have found in our end of the county <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> .
