Runny nose x 1 week

Ellie has had a runny nose for about a week. She coughs once or twice daily (a single cough, not a "fit"). I think her brother had the same "bug" a week ago, but he's already over it. Silly question, but am I correct in assuming that this may be the same "bug" but CF is prolonging her recovery? What can I do to help her? I started nasal saline rinses once daily 3 days ago...but don't know what else to add to her treatments (other than added CPT). I'm concerned whatever is going on may move into her chest....

Her secretions are thickened, but close to clear in color....

Sigh...

For my daughter with CF it seems that her colds/runny nose take longer to get over than her older brother without CF when they have the same thing. If your daughter has no fever, minimal cough, sleeping ok, acting ok I would say it can take 2 weeks for the runny nose to go away. If she gets a fever, increase cough, decrease appetite..I would get more concerned. Nasal rinses are a good idea. Increase fluids, steamy chicken broth.

I also increase VEST and nebs when my daughter has a cold. Maggie has not had a cold in a few months but got one this past Friday. She is feeling yucky, sore throat, cough, upset tummy, whiny, and now a runny nose which she uses a tissue every 2 seconds<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">. I increase her vest time, rest, push fluids. She was complaining of a sore throat so we did some salt water gargles which we have never done before but she thought it was fun.

She has her yearly CF appointment Tuesday; kind of a bummer to go sick. Also a bummer this is the last week of school.

Sorry to start talking about ourselves. I know some people get concerned about the color of boogers. But for us the color does not always make sense; Maggie has needed antibiotics when her boogers are clear; but she was coughing forever at the time.

Hi, we have a constant struggle with a runny nose. If my son has had a cold lasting more than 5-7 days and is not improving we call the pediatrician for antibiotics. He is prone to sinus infections and they become much worse when we are not proactive. Keep an eye on the cold and don't hesitate to call your doc if she isn't getting better on her own.
