Salty

I tried the lick test on my kids yesterday. In two there was a hint of salt. One child that tested borderline ( in the mid 40's) tasted like a salt lick. (He had been running around sweating earlier) Of corse now I am in a panic. I think it's normal to taste salty after exercise but please someone correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

My daughter with CF does not taste super salty to me, not that I go around licking her all the time. When she was a newborn she did taste salty to me. My son, who does not have CF, does taste salty, after sweating like on his head. He tends to sweat ALOT. My post is most likely not much help, but relying on a salty taste will not lead you to an answer. Some people with CF do taste salty, though, and even get salt crystals on their skin after sweating. Again, I have not noted this for my daughter, could be our climate, though. it's pretty cold where we live.

You are correct - everyone's salt is sweaty after excercise. I don't think licking kids isn't a real accurate predictor of CF - some CF kids are salty, some aren't. As hard as it's going to be, I think you are just going to have to wait until you get the genetics test back and go from there<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

When DS sweats (a lot when asleep in someone's arms), if you kiss him and then lick your lips, you can taste it a lot. It actually kind of stings.
