Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to write an update and let you know that I had Samuel on June 29th at 7:46 PM. It was a pretty rough pregnancy and a pretty rough labor, but it was totally worth it!!!

I ended up being admitted over Memorial Day weekend due to increased cough, super short of breath, and just feeling lousy. I stayed in for 2 weeks and did some IVs which definitely helped quite a bit. While in there my high risk OB (I also had gestational diabetes) started talking about inducing early because my lungs just didn't like being pregnant.

I was discharged for a week and was told I should get an amnio done at 37 weeks to see how Sam was doing lung wise. He was just below the numbers they wanted to see, so I was set to be induced at 38 weeks. I went in on Monday at 7:30AM and was started on petocine... It took forever for me to dialate! I finally got to an 8 at around 2:30PM on Tuesday. Unfortunately when my doctor checked me again around 6PM, I hadn't progressed any further, so I had to have a c-section.

All my doctors really wanted to avoid a c-section at all costs. In my opinion though after having one, it really wasn't bad at all and I probably rather would have just had one to start with instead of waiting almost 36 hours My OB did say after my c-section that my pelvis was way too small to get him out (and he was only 6lbs9oz).

I was so excited because he was able to go straight to the regular nursery and didn't have to go to the NICU or transitional nursery. His blood sugars were completely fine.

Sam is such a great baby. He's so mellow and is a great eater/sleeper. I'm enjoying him so much!!! He was well worth the wait!!!

I'll try to figure out how to post pictures a little later, but I think he's starting to wake up so I need to get going! Hope everyone else is doing great!

Erin,
Congrats!!! Sounds like he definitely was worth the long labor and eventual C-section!

Can't wait to see pictures! Hope you are doing well at home now and getting tons of time to snuggle with him

Congrats on Sam. Can we see a picture of the family? Sounds like it was difficult but that everything worked out in the end.

I can't get over how similar our labors were. My water broke which caused me to have to go on Pitocin (not in my birth plan!) because contractions didn't ensue. I got stuck at 8cm for 3 hrs when I decided to get the epidural. That was 24 hrs after my water broke. My care team was also trying to avoid a c-section as was I. Finally after 36 hours of labor (24 of which were active contraction hours and 1.5 hrs of pushing) a healthy baby boy was born. He scored a 10 on the apgar and was perfect. He was 7 lbs, 10 oz. never was it said he was too big though.

I'm so gald everything worked out and I hope you will stick around so that you can answer c-section questions for the members.

Wishing you all the best.

Just curious did you get your husband or son genetically sequenced to rule out cf?

Lauren...I didn't have the full panel done on Sam or my husband. Our insurance wouldn't cover the full panel back when we got my husband tested, so we just had the 98 (or something around there) mutations tested. I'm hoping that if the company my husband works at changes insurance in the next year or so, maybe it will be covered for Sam then. Until then, the state of Ohio screens for it, but I'm not sure how many mutations they check for. It picked up mine (obviously) and that's all. My CF clinic will do a sweat test at my next appointment on him because that's the state's protocol. As long as that comes back negative, I'm just going to wait and see what happens with the insurance for now...
