scabs in nose

Hello again.. My boyfriend gets scabs in his nose from time to time. When he blows his nose, the scabs loosen and bleed. Could these be polyps? Does this happen to anyone else?

Hi,

I think it happens when the air is too dry or too cold, like in winter. Normally I don´t have that problem during summer or vacation.

Could be a combination of very dry air and the usual sinus infections we carry with CF. Has he tried any of over the counter saline nasal moisturizing sprays? Nasal Lavage can also be very effective in keeping sinus infections under control. See: http://www.sinusrinse.com. Doing this procedure just once a day has made a world of difference to my sinuses over the last 25 years.

Ha ha, I get that every morning, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Dry air is most likely the cause, and if he's had polyp surgery in the past he'd be more prone to that sort of thing, anyway. It could be polyups(sp?) I had them removed from my nose when I was about 10. Never had much of a problem except if I am on O2 without water.

I get scabs in my nose also because of sinus problems and either runny nose all the time or extremely dry. My doctor gave me some Bactroban ointment which I place on q-tip and place in my nose on the scabs. This tends to clear them up very quickly then I place vaseline up my nose every night to keep the membranes moist to prevent them from coming back.
