Hi, I am a nanny that takes care of a 5 year old boy with CF and diabetes. We would like to donate our Scandi Shake to anyone that would like to try it or has to buy it for the $8-12 (4- 3oz. packages) that it costs. I don't know if this stuff expires but we have had it for atleast a year. We have 65 vanilla packets and 22 chocolate. Scandi Shake Nutrition Facts: 440 Calories; 21g Fat (8 saturated); 57 Carbohydrates(19sugars); 5g Protein. Tastes great with orange juice or added to ice cream. Receipes can also be found online. Please put in your request by June 2nd, 2005 noon pacific time to slotwinc@yahoo.com. We will put all names in a hat and do a drawing. The number of requests will determine how we will divide them. Thanks.
-Christine (nanny to Jacob with CF and diabetes and his 7 year old brother, Taylor, who does not)

hey thought i should add: if you get your enzymes from ultrase(the brand name) they do run a program where they'll send those scandishakes to you for free. I also have several boxes of chocolate ones that i would give to someone who is willing to pay me shipping (someone who needs them anyway)

If you don't use the scandis, or if they send you too much, I am sure they would be willing to pay for the shipping back to them so that they could distribute them to those who can't really afford the shipping-even a minimal amount is sometimes too much. That way, you don't loose any money and somebody can still be helped. It might be worth giving them a call and asking them about it. Just a thought though.

Hi,

If you still have some Scandi Shakes left, may I please get some. I'm desperately trying to gain weight and someone suggested that I try Scandi Shakes. Thanks so much.

To the person trying to gain weight,
Do you have CF and prescription for enzymes? If you are prescribed Ultrase you can get Scandishakes through this program

If you are on Creon, they also have a program for getting high calorie drinks made by carnation.

You might also want to check the website because I think I remember reading something about calling for a free sample of Sandishake, but I can't seem to find it now.

We were given a prescription once for the Scandi Shakes. It was given to us for trying a certain enzyme. I can't for the life of me remember the name of them but Austin could not use the enzymes. They didn't work for him. From then on we knew that he could only be given Ultrase MT20. Now that he is a diabetic, we are having a tough time getting his diet in order. The Scandi shakes have too many carbs in it for him. It was so hard for him to go from eating everything and anything he wanted, to counting carbs and feeling starved.

I'll get to the point now...lol If you cannot afford the shakes, see if your insurance will cover the cost. We live in California so he has Medi/Cal and CCS. He is not on SSI. We have applied 4 times and been denied 4 times. (Very sore subject)

Maybe this isn't the case for all CFer's with Diabetes, but I thought with CFRD you are still aloud to eat anything and everything so long as you take the appropriate amounts of insulin? I've had CFRD for 10+ years now, and have not changed my diet except for no sugar. I drink 2 Scandi's a day and have been putting weight on, and have had no problems with my sugars.

I am curious about this also. My experience has been that the Endocronologists that are not familiar enough with CFRD (tho they seem to think they are) are the ones that think a CFer can count carbs & maintain the weight with no major problems.
