severe chest pain

This morning when I woke up, my chest was hurting. As the day has gone on, it has gotten worse and now the pain has spread to my shoulders and my neck. I've taken 2 antiacids and I took my Ranidine (Zantac) this morning. It hurts to breath deep or even move. It's not a burning feeling like I normally get with heartburn, so I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

The fact that it has spread to your shoulders and neck concerns me. I would go tp the ER if I were. Its not likely that you are having a heart attack, but it could be something equally serious, like a pulmonary embolism.

If the pain is just below the sternum, and feels radiative and nearly cramping in nature, it could be a gall bladder problem. In either case, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. Chest pain is nothing to mess with.

Well, I went to the doctor. I just went to our local clinic (where they know VERY little about CF) Well anyways, the doctor took an X-ray and said I had plurisy (sp?). The pain's not as bad as it was, but I've never had plurisy before, so that's kinda wierd to me.

If it's constant pain it sounds like it could be pleurisy, if it comes and goes then it sounds like gallbladder. I would step up your Vest and Acapella to double what you normally do for a week. I know it hurts but push along. What I always remind myself of is if I don't get it out it could turn into pneumonia. Also, consider taking some anti inflammatory pain killer because if it's pleurisy then their inflammation. Take care. I know you're uncomfortable. See if someone can clap on you and if you are into massage now would be a good time to get one scheduled. Your muscles around the site sound like they are contracting and spasming.

I've only had bad chest pain a couple times. Pleurisy, and from aspergillosis.

Ibuprofen always helps right away for me with pleurisy.

I had pleurisy in January. It felt like I was being stabbed! Alternate heat and ice, and take lots of ibuprofen (I was on 600 mg twice a day) and take it easy.
