Severe pacreatic insufficiency

Just needing more reassurance and insight!! As many have noted, my 5 week old has CF (ddf508) and also has severe pancreatic insufficiency. Her enzymes are working wonderfully as she's gained almost two pounds since 7/3! The doctor said she'll most likely be diabetic by her late teens...who else has a child with severe pancreatic insufficiency? How old are they? How are they doing? If you're the person affected, how old are you and do you have CFRD? Thanks, everyone.

Hi Katie,

I'm pretty severely PI and have been on enzymes since I was 3 weeks old. Of course, at that time, they didn't have the foresight to realize I'd probably develop cfrd.

I'm 26 now and still am only 'borderline' diabetic. I can stay within 'normal' blood sugar range as long as I don't get carried away with the white flour and sugar! I'm considering starting insulin now, though, in order to give myself a little more freedom in my diet and some extra pounds. It's a hard decision since it would require strict monitoring of my blood sugar, especially at the beginning when I'm just learning! A lot of people do great with it though!

My son, 3, is DDF508 as well. He was severely pancreatic insufficient since birth. He is on a high dose of enzymes but since age 20 months or so, his bowel movements have been 95% normal. Yet he is still testing severely pancreatic insufficient so I don't quite get it. He is off the charts for weight--meaning overweight! He is massive, the size of a 5 year old. We were told you can't predict when/who will get diabetes.

I am a DDF508 and was pancreatic sufficent until my late 20's. When I was 27 I started taking Pancrease MT20.

I was dx'd with CF/rD at age 14.I know others who are DDF508 and do not have diabetes.
