Should I be concerned?

I was talking to the nurse at Austins CF clinic today and asked her what Austin's cultures revealed from last month. She told me he cultured Normal flora and heavy haemophilus influenza.

After researching it a little I was wondering if he could be contagious? He did have the Hib vaccine whe he was younger. I didnt realize what it was until I researched it and had the correct spelling and info from Liza from the site. By the way thanks Liza!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I really didn't ask the nurse about it she just said something about it was normal this time of the year with the CF patients and that they don't treat the culture they treat the symptoms. and that if he would start running a fever or seemed sicker or any changes to let them know right away.

So my question is should I be worried and is he contagious? I was talking to the school nurse today also and told her about his cultures and she seemed a little concerned. So I hope I didn't start something.

I'd mentioned that none of Max's doctors were concerned about it at the time he cultured it. When he was put on zithromax his doctor did mention that even though he was be prescribed that med for inflammation, that it would most likely take care of it.

Imagine it's like any other cf bug -- steno. malt., staph... Don't treat unless there's a problem and probably not contagious except maybe to other cfers. Just guessing here.

My son cultured it once about a year ago and the cf clinic didn't treat it either. Said it was a normal bug, not specific to cf. He ended up going to the Ped with an ear infection about a week or so later and I mentioned to him that he had cultured h influenza. The Ped said h influenza can cause sinus infections, ear infections and eye infections. I can't remember what antibiotic he was prescribed, but it was just one of the normal ones a Ped gives you. They weren't worried about him going back to school so I don't think it's contagious, but I'm guessing on that one.

Thought I'd add - there are two types of h influenza. The Hib vaccine that kids gets now days vaccinates for type B. I assume he would have cultured non-type B which is the much more common type. They would be much more upset if he cultured the type B kind because that one causes meningitis and is fairly serious.
