Should I take anything?

I woke up this morning with a fever (100.2) and I can tell I have an infection brewing in my lungs. I couldn't fall asleep last night because I was coughing non-stop and it has been that way since I woke up. I coughed so hard this morning I threw up which hasn't happened in a VERY long time!

My question is should I take Tylenol? Don't fevers usually mean the body is fighting off an infection so isn't it good to have one?

If I wake up yucky again tomorrow I will call my Dr but I want to see if it subsides on its own first.

Thanks!

My sister the P.A. (Physician Assistant) has a rule of thumb to "let it simmer" a while. If it's a low fever, let it take it's course, but if it gets real high, it's best to take something to get the fever down.
A couple years back, I had some odd fever happen where I was frantically working all day on Saturday, but by Sunday Night, I had a sudden fever. The wife literally iced me down, and the fever subsided by the next morning, which meant I could make it into work and face the Jerk-of-a-boss in that era.
Even now, I think I have a few fevers that come-and-go. BTW, are you taking in enough water? One thought is the concern of dehydration with the fever, but also is passing on the info from the wife that having enough hydration in the lungs would (or theoretically would) keep moisture inside to help move the phlem around.
Another thought is that if the fever persists at that temperature, maybe taking something for it would help. Another caution is that the liver takes a lot of abuse with the meds we already take and taking something for the fever will add another load, so it's best not to make it a common practice to take a Tylenol everytime a fever arises.
I hope you feel better...even slight fevers I hate having as well!

I agree with Fred. If it gets real high then it can actually do more harm than good. But if you feel achy or anything take something since that is usually a sign that the fever is high. Besides its not worth feeling TOTALLY miserable. Hope you feel better!

I'm on the other side of the fence for this one. If I have a fever (even a slight one) that means I'm sick!!!!
I would take something, there is no reason to be uncomfortable! I ususally take tylenol, I think it's supposed to lower a fever and help w/body aches.
How are you feeling otherwise? Better/worse by now?
If it doesn't get better quickly, I'd call to get an antibiotic soon.

Good luck & I hope your fever goes away.
