I don't have kids but I was wondering to the parents out there, do all Shrek movies have alcohol consumption?
And doesn't that bother you that this is a cartoon movie that shows Shrek getting drunk on Martinis?
What if he was smoking cigarettes? Wouldn't people be upset?

I guess that's why I don't have kids...there are too many things that I can't control and I would be appalled at how many things children are exposed to.....

I haven't seen the movie, though my 7 year old did see it with his grandparents. Guess the drinking doesn't bother me, but ds is exposed to "social drinking" at home and family events, though NOT drunkenness. I guess if it came up in conversation, we would talk to him about it.

Smoking we do NOT tolerate and I don't believe any of our friends or family members are smokers. Snd we have told him that smoking is bad, that it can hurt our lungs. To which we get the eye roll and an "I KNOW".

I don't have kids, but it's a good reminder for when I have kids to keep in mind there are things that were NOT appropriate when I was a kid, that have somehow become commonplace.

I watched Transformers 2 and sat next to a group of kids that had to be around 10 years old, and I was SHOCKED at the language, sexuality and inappropriate references in the movie... Made me feel like a grandfather sitting there with 'ancient standards' being shocked that these 10 year-olds were watching this movie next to me.
I guess I was just raised VERY conservatively... I just hope I remember those standards when I have my own kids.

I do not have kids either, but have been thinking about it more recently. ...I don't feel like drinking in movies would bother me. Hiding the reality of common subjects like drinking seems like it would make things more awkward for them later. I mean, I'm sure the majority of us remember when smoking in movies was commonplace. We are not all serial killers because of it! I feel like some time people over-protect their kids. ...Kind of worry about things that dont need worry. I understand though. The thing that scares me more is the way people act on television. "Reality" television. Have you seen My Sweet 16, on MTV? It makes me wonder if there really was a big red button, should we push it? Kidding! But you know what I mean, right? Who has seen the movie Idiocracy? Funny movie! ...Scary thought!

In general I've been supprised at some of the stuff the children's movies have had in them. Especially Disney, they weren't ever a problem before on questionable material, but recently they've put out things like the drinking in Shrek or the voodoo themes in Princess and the Frog, and there's a whole list of things like that. Aside from the eleged subtle sexual refrences in the old Disney classics that you have to go back through and re watch the movie looking for it and still have to have your mind in the gutter to pick up on it, my parents never worried about what was in a Disney movie

TTucker, I agree with a lot of that. Especially the reality shows or any show for that matter... I mean I worry about the idolization (spelling?) of celebrities and sports stars and seeing how they get away with cheating, allegded rapings etc. I remember reading an article once about how in most other countries when asked to name an idol or someone they admire they would name a scientist or a researcher or something along those lines, where as in America people name celebrities. (If anyone remember hearing about that please correct me if it was other countries or in the past, I cant quite remember the comparisons admittedly)

Also Lance, I agree with the whole nudity, language thing more than probably the drinking. And it is weird that to think that for some reason smoking in movies is regulated now when everything else is not. I watched the exorcist a few weeks ago and the doctor lights up a cigarette in his office! Then I watched America's Got Talent and Nick Cannon can say A$$ and some other words I believe, I was surpised since it is supposed to be for the family.
