My daughter is still fighting her bought with "damonia". In fact, she is actually doing worse now than she was last week. She had an x-ray taken today to check for a pleural effusion because her pulse ox was down to 94. The x-ray came back negative, but showed a lot of buildup.

Her pediatrician asked alot of questions about Andrew's recent infections and called our CF doc to discuss things with her. We go back to the office tomorrow to see if Becca is making any progress. I'm afraid they are going to admit her. Has anyone ever heard of siblings having complications from lung infections in your CF child? I've never heard of this and am wondering why it is a concern. I thought CF lung infections were pretty much confined to their lungs. Any experience out there?

This is what I understand for me anyway. I develop pneumonia, but it become pseudomonal pneumonia because my PA goes haywire & thrives on all that congestion.

No one other then a CFer can get the PA. I dont know if pneumonia "germs" themselves are contagious, but CF wise I dont see how it should matter. Unless you are on chemo or have some other immune compromised illness that the CF bugs can get ya.

Sorry to hear she isnt better.

I disagree. Others can get PA from CFers and develop symptoms of infections. Sinus and ear infections are often caused by PA. Yes PA would probably not do harm to a person w/o CF who has healthy lungs w/o all that mucus. But it can still cause a illness. I don't buy the whole thing that CFers are only contagious to other CFers and people that are immunocompromised. The one I have always been suspcious of is the H Flu that causes epiglotitis, very serious in children. Now kids get an immunization from this....but when I was younger I never did. My son culture it and a couple of years ago I got epiglotitis....I'm sure I know where I got that from. So I've often thought about newborns that have not rec the vacine yet, wouldn't a CFer that culture H Flu be contagious to all newborns. My younger son never did, but I still think it is a possibility.
