I use the bottle and to clean it I just wash it with soap and hot water and then I put vineger in it and let it sit for about 30 minutes and then rinse, rinse, rinse. I boil water ever night and keep it in glass jar of sports bottle and I also warm the water in the 8 oz bottle for 20 seconds (in the microwave) then I shake it up to make sure there are no hot spots. I also always have two bottle and rotate them every other day so that one had enough time to dry out.

Hi Becky-
Just read your post. I wanted to coment on using vinegar. The CFF now tells us that vinegar is not strong enough to kill mucoid and some types of PA. They now recommend 70% alcohol instead...it is much more effective. I remember growing up my mom used vinegar too to sterilize all my stuff.... Not trying to tell you what to do, but it might be a little safer<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I just use it at room temp. I sterilize the bottle once a week. I have never had a problem with. I also used to use the same recipe back in middle school and then stopped it for a bunch of years...til like last year. I got the recipe from my two different doctors at my hosp...my ENT doc (in middle school) and now my CF doc. This may sound lazy, but I just dont have the time to make it twice a day and then also sterilize it it twice a day.

Just curious CowTown, have you noticed any difference since starting the rinses?

I have a question for people about saline sprays. How often do you replace them? My kids and I use them every day, but I feel like they probably get contaminated before they are empty. Has anyone gotten any advice from docs about those?

Jane, I put mine in a glass bottle, and replace it once a week. What I do tho when I go to use the spray, I pour a little bit of the water into a separate cup and draw it into the syringe (or nasal aspirator) that way. I have always done it this way and havvent noticed a problem, thats just how I was taught to do it when I was little and when I got the 'new recipe' last year, it said I could do the same thing. I like it because, maybe b/c I am lazy, but I dont hae time to make a sterilize everything twice a day.
