Sinus Infections

My 5 year old has had so many sinus problems over the past year. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0"> She has had a sinus infection every month. She has taken every antibiotic that I could think of. Right now she is on Zithromax 5 days on, then 5 days off for 3 rounds. She had her Tonsils & Adnoids removed soon after the dx of CF because my doc thought that they might be the cause of all of her flare ups but that hasn't helped. She also had a sinus polyp but that was removed during surgery & still not relief.

Any suggestions on how to help keep the infection out or maybe clear the sinuses better?

hi there,i suffer from sinusitis myself, and my ent doc took my adenoids out and put gromids in my ear,and i had an operation to fix my deviated septum, none of that really worked a lot,or the anti biotics, but what was helpful was my ent surgeon told me to buy a syringe and irrigate my nose with warm salt water, and blow my nose afterwards,it doesn't feel very pleasant but helps keep bacteria away, combined with the antibiotics of course

DS had issues with sinus infections when he was an infant. A couple of times he was put on augmentin for 10 days only to have it come back. Finally his ID doctor put him on a stronger dosage for 20 days. Ugh! Nasty diapers, upset tummy, etc., but it knocked it out once and for all.

DS has been on zithromax since he was two years old.

Hi there. My son Ryan is 6 and his sinuses have been, by far, his biggest issue with his CF. Lungs have always been clear.

Since we have been doing sinus flushes (NeilMed's Sinus Rinse is the brand) in the last year, or so, Ryan's sinus infections have gone way down. That said, I am sad to report that we have been unable to keep these da*~ polyps from coming bad, so he is having his 3rd sinus surgury in 18 months coming up here in a couple of weeks. This time, they are taking his adenoids and we're hopign that helps fix this recurring polyp problem.

Ask your CF Doc about sinus flushes....I think you will find them very, very helpful.
