my dd is again with a cold, or something, not in her lungs, but her nose is always runny.
So again antibiotic (three weeks ago she finish 21 days of other antibiotic), like three diferent medicines for the nose, and XR, and go to the othorhino.. and ok, i do all what is needed, but I just want to know what tips about sinus you can give me.
she clean her nose everyday with saline water.
the other important thing is that she started play gruop three months ago , so thats why she pick up so many things,.

thank you

Is the saline a spray or is it the squirt bottle with the saline solution you mix up to completely flush out her sinuses? If not, I'd recommend doing the saline rinses, up to about 4x/day. With Emily, when she does not have any congestion one bottle of water is plenty to rinse things out. When she is sick, however, it can take about 4 bottles of saline to completely clear things out (we keep going until water is flowing clear... this makes a big difference.)

Even if the congestion seems to be only in her sinuses and not her chest, we are told to still do an extra vest session when she has a sinus infection, since infection can spread.

Avoiding otc antihistamines like Benadryl is important, but I am sure you've already been told that.

A constant runny nose might be an indication of allergies- has she had allergy testing?

If this is her first exposure to a group of other kids, it's not surprising she's picking up lots of bugs... this is pretty common, I think. I'm not sure there are any magic answers there unfortunately, except to instill the best habits you can now for good hand-washing, consider bringing wipes with you or hand sanitizer, etc for easy use when she coughs, sneezes or you see her touch something ANOTHER kid coughs or sneezes near! When playgroup meets at your house, attention to cleaning toys when practical (especially anything that may have been mouthed) would be a good idea. I would consider asking about supplements that might help boost her immune system... one good one is Omega's (which are good in so many ways!); vitamin D3, which our kids are often low in anyway, has been associated with immune system function; I give the kids a B-complex as well. Of course check with the dr before giving her something new...

Harriet:
you are always so kind with all your answers, thank you very much.
first of all nobody has told me nothing about benadryl, I give her Aerius (desloratadina), pretty sure you dont know it, but just in case what about benadryl?.
yesterday i took her to a new doctor, after the usual speach about cystic: nutrition, cpt, and lungs, she told me to give her augmentin. The phisiotherapist said me that he dont believe she need a new antibiotic, because her cold is going away... so I don´t know what to do.
i am also giving her nasonex (its a corticoid for her nose)and clarinase (loratadina).. i think i will wait two days and if the cold hasnt gone, i will give her augmentin....
at what age the sinus problems begin?.
About tha saline rinse we dont have here nothing like that tea pot, we just have this little spay with sea water, which i give to her like 5 times a day.

we are in summer, i am going camping with my two girls, hope that everything goes well, and in march i will take her to a othorhino.
thank you harriet

DS has had sinus issues since he was a baby. His nose never runs because the nasal mucus is so thick. When he was a baby we used a little spray bottled and a bulb syringe in attempt to suck out the mucus, which he hated.

The first year he had a couple ear infections and was put on augmentin. When he was 10 months old at his cf appointment his doctor noticed his stuffy nose, thick mucus and said he had a sinus infection. Being a new mom, I just assumed it was a toddler/baby thing -- all kids get stuffy boogery noses, right. He put DS on augmentin for a month to get rid of the infection once and for all, was concerned with the potential for the sinus infection to go into his lungs. The med DID give him very loose stools, but we got rid of the infection and for the first time ever he could breathe clearly.

When DS turned 4 years old, I got a sinus rinse kit -- not the neti (tea) pot but a squirt bottle with little packets of salt, which we mix up with sterile water. DS squirts the bottle up a nostril and it comes out the other nostril and it's amazing the amount of mucus he gets out.
