Sinus Surgery

How many of you have had sinus surgery only to regret it?
Not because of the pain [though that's bad in itself] but because once you had it done you kept on having to have it done?
Never ending cycle here... just trying to see how many people feel this way.

Our 7 year old ds had sinus surgery at 4 yrs. Within literally weeks, his sinuses started backing up again. By 9 months post-op, despite proactive treatment, his sinuses were in the same shape as they were before surgery. Since then, we've just been treating him medically and are avoiding surgery until he's older and his sinuses are better developed or until we have no other choice. He did have his tonsils and adenoids removed at the same time as the sinus surgery and we have seen improvements from that so I can't say the whole surgery was a waste, but I can certainly understand how you feel. Also, for what it's worth, my older brother doesn't have cf but it's been a never ending cycle on the sinus surgeries with him, too with short lived improvement in between.

I guess I'm rare on this one... I had the surgery once when I was 5 and I have yet to have it again. My nose still gives me a little trouble, but so far, nothing worth getting the surgery again.

the surgery doesnt play any role in having to have it done again. thats a myth. its a matter of how bad your sinuses are to begin with. obviously if you are at the stage where your sinusitis wont go away then its not going to go away. surgery is meant to give temporary relief for people at that stage. its not a cure all, not even for people with mild conditions! so i can assure you there is no vicious cycle involving surgery. if you want something to blame, blame cf. that is whats making your nose poop <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

i dont regret having my surgeries at all. im one of those people who are at the stage where my nose will never get better. in the last 2 years i have had 2 surgeries. i have accepted the fact that surgery is not going to make the overall condition of my nose better but only give me relief. its worth going through all the trouble to get a years relief. id prefer to be in a bit of pain and blow out chunks and packing paste for a few weeks than have a permanently blocked nose for the rest of my life.

I'm SO happy I've had mine done! I've had physical surgery done 2 times, and 3 seperate times to just go in and clean things out. The surgerys made a majority of the sinus pain go away, the headaches especially. I don't mind going in to get cleaned out, infact I like that too... I always feel so good afterward... it's just like a car, some cars need a little more matinence to be kept in peak condition. Sure it hurt at the time, but not waking up every day with throbbing head pain, sore thraots and it even tooth & eye pain on bad days, it was SO worth it! Oh, and kybert is totally right, so quit complaining, at least you were healthy enough to have surgery, and live in a country where you could afford it, or even have access to it!
