Sinus Surgery

I am scheduled to get sinus surgery on my deviated septum and get the silicon-like mucus removed from my sinuses for the purpose of preparing me for double lung transplantation listing/candidacy, and to help me breathe easier. Luckily I have no polyps, but the silicon-like mucus is filling my sinuses and my septum is wonky.

I was told any sinus surgery was tough and risky, particularly when FEV1 hovers around 40%.

Anyone have experience with this?

Hey there Grendel! I have had both done at once before..while undergoing my FESS Sinus surgery for removing all that junk from my sinuses he saw that my septum was deviated so he fixed it. My sinuses are totally messed up and my septum was jacked, but since fixing it it has been pretty "wide open" up there..requiring fewer surgeries. Whenever I have had the surgeries by FEV's have been anywhere from 40's- 60's.

Hey there Grendel! I have had both done at once before..while undergoing my FESS Sinus surgery for removing all that junk from my sinuses he saw that my septum was deviated so he fixed it. My sinuses are totally messed up and my septum was jacked, but since fixing it it has been pretty "wide open" up there..requiring fewer surgeries. I have had a couple complete sinus revisions a 1 deviated septum repair. My sinus' work great now...moreso because of the revision and less because of the septum repair. Unless you have a severely deviated septum you probably won't even notice a difference. It seems that I didn't have much pain but they used a splinting technique where my nose was packed for a few days....that was miserable! It seems that after a week or so I was back to normal.
