HelloEveryone

I have a question. I have a daughter with CF, one of her CF genes is the DeltaF508. My sister does not know if she is a carrier or not but i think that she has many CF symptoms. My sister is 27 years old with 2 beautiful daughters one of which is 7 years old and only weighs 35 lbs and has sinus and allergy problems, my niece was tested at birth b/c of my daughter having CF and the sweat test came back negative. My real question is , my sister is very small she weighs about 105lbs and she is 5"1, she LOVES salt and she also has digestive problems ( she seems to go to the bathroom alot after she eats ) her BM smells really bad and she has stomach cramps, she also eats ALOT and never gains weight. She is a smoker and has been for a long time, she has had one lung collapse and she is always coughing and being diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. It seems she coughs real bad most of the time. I would like others opinions as to if you think that she should be tested for CF, she seems to think that some of these problems are probably not CF related.

My daughter was the first in both sides of the family to be diagnosed with CF

It sounds like your sister is in denial. She could be a symptomatic carrier, she could have CF and she's right, it coudl be not at all related to CF. But it would be better to find out. It would also be a good idea to get her 7 year old tested.

I have heard of false negative sweat test happening. Especially if the person performing the test really doesn't know what they are doing. I, too would suggest that she be tested. Sounds very symptomatic of CF to me.

Since your daughter has had her genotype mapped the lab can compare her DNA to other family members. This narrows down the number of mutations they have to check for and can give faster results. My aunt got her results back in about a week and a half because my DNA was used to compare. When one family has a confirmed diagnosis a sweat test is NOT enough.

From our experience, I have NO faith in the sweat test. It can't hurt a thing for her to be tested as well as her daughter.
