Brandon-CF and Christopher are finally
arriving this Friday!!! I was wondering what snacks should I have
if any for Brandon it is a 3 hour (at least) drive from
airport to home. We will be able to stop for lunch, making sure he
eats is ia big concern for me . I haven't been able to talk to
him to ask what he might like. Thanks for all your help

This is so hard because I would imagine his exposure to a wide arrange of foods was limited so his diet probably was lousy thus probably making him a picky eater. Hopefully you will luck out. I would start with the basics figuring MOST kids would like them. The cheese/crackers or peanut butter/crackers. Graham crackers, beef jerkey. You are looking for quick, easy things for the car? These are a start! Next person please.....

Watch Nickelodeon channel for the commercial and see what's popular for snacks. That's what Max has been doing lately -- fruit snacks that leave a tatoo on your tongue was his choice last week. When we go on a trip I usually wander the aisles of walmart or target for snacks.

I've been buying individual pretzel and cheese packages -- like the crackers and cheese. Max won't touch the cheese, but the pretzels don't get crushed. Our snack bag usually includes juice boxes, little bags of crackers (grippers or goldfish), fruit snacks -- this week it's gushers & streamers. Individual cups of mandarin oranges, peaches or applesauce. Bananas -- most kids like bananas. I've found milk that doesn't need to be refridgerated -- Horizon brand comes in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. I also found peanut butter in a tube -- like a tube of toothpaste. Just squirt it onto a cracker or in max's case -- his fingers.

String cheese. Apples. Seedless Grapes.

I would have almond butter or cashew butter on bread with some jelly. If he like peanut butter that is a plus. This is good to keep in the house as it does not spoil easily.

Hard boiled eggs with dips with veggies. Think healthy choices.

If you're talking about a child with CF then the snack choice depends on whether he has digestive issues and has enzymes available: If he needs enzymes and does not have them available on the trip, then you should stay away from fat: go for the pretzels, fruit, juice type stuff that folks are suggesting. If enzymes are needed and available, then I'd second the idea of looking at advertizing to see what sounds fun for the ride.

Thanks for all the help!!!! We LOVE peanut butter here so not a
problem. Yes Brandon has digestive problems and is on enzymes.. he
also had a mother that did not want to or care to make sure
he was fed properly so eating is a bad mental thing for him. I on
the other hand am a food network freak and will try anything just
to see how it turns out!!!! I LOVE to cook especially for
large crowds I guess I can take a few things and
see what he brings with him and if we need to stop I am sure Wally
World (WALMART)is along the way. I am so EXCITED!

Laura,

I am SO happy for you! They are finally coming!

Little Debbie snacks always work. You can get a box of them for about $1.25 and they have everything from oatmeal pies to Star Crunch (YUMMY) to honey buns.

Please write Friday and let us know how everything went!

Good luck!

I second the idea of little debbie snacks. I loved and still love oatmeal pies. I also loved eating those Hostess cupcakes - the chocolate ones with the white filling and white swirlies on the top. Those are good fatty snacks.

Another thing I loved was apples and peanut butter or celery and peanut butter if you want something that is kind healthy but still with some fat in the pb. Peanut butter and crackers are also good to have.
