I have to share....
Today is the first day of going completely sugar and carb free. I self-diagnosed myself with Yeast Syndrome and it really does all make sense. I have been on and off IVs all winter long and have had an antibiotic overload. Now for the first time ever I have wheezing and my asthma is out of control (been going on since March). I am maxed out on Asthma medications.
Needless to say, after all the positive benefits Nicole has received thus far, I figured that I would give it a try.

I started last Wednesday with cutting out ALL pop and candy/junk. Today is the first day I am eliminating it all and going full-force.

It may just be superstition-or all in my head, but I have also been coughing A LOT today. Not sick cough, and the mucus is sliding right out like water -which is very abnormal for me. Typically I have to work at getting the junk up!

I am excited with this decision and giving it a try. Anyone else with positive results, I would love to hear your story and I would love to hear some recipes for meals For the first few weeks I am cutting out every type of sugar possible, including fruits.

I tried this several years ago, but I found that I couldn't keep my calories high enough. I started to waste away. However, if you can make it work sugar free....God bless you. No sugar, no wheat, no dairy, no gluten...you'll be as healthy as you can with CF.

I really hope it works. It is helpful to see what others are doing, and especially helpful with DD508. I kind of feel like it's a different situation than other CF because it is so severe-- At least for us it has been. I think high carbs, low sugar is good. Keep us updated on how it goes!!

Mom 2 w/cf one 1 w/o diagnosed 1 year ago.

Christina -

Good for you. It is so so so hard. I allowed myself caffeine when weaning to help with the headaches. Imagine my guilt after eating poorly past couple days and logging in to see this, I am getting it back together, thank you for the additional inspiration.

Please read about die off reactions on google or you can see what I experienced on my blog. Hopefully you can beef up on high calories while sticking to this. Dont forget to drink lots of lemon/lime water.

I am new to this whole idea.....so what is it you don't eat sugar, carbs, gluten, or dairy??? What are the benefits to it?? I am interested- since I have CFRD I try to avoid sugar as much anyway, but what are the other benefits to it, and avoiding the other types of food.

Thanks, and good luck with it Christina

I have followed some of the yeast/candida threads, but perhaps not as closely as I should have. Forgive my ignorance, but if you cut out sugar, wheat, dairy, & gluten, what in the world do you eat?

Also, as far at cutting carbs - is it all carbs? or just simple carbs, and upping complex carbs (fruits, veggies, etc)? I'm also curious b/c I need a lot of carbs for triathlon training, so I don't think this would work for me anyway, but really curious as to what you are allowed to eat.

Also, as far as cutting out dairly - do you take calcium supplements? I know getting calcium, etc. from it's original source/food is supposed to be better than supplements, but I guess if you cut out dairy, supplements are better than nothing.

Thanks in advance; look forward to learning more about this
