Im in the army myself and might be able to help. Each unit has what is called a CFC representative. CFC stands for Combined Federal Campaign. Basically what it does is allow you to donate directly out of your paycheck for an amount that you choose that will go to a charity that you choose. They will give you a book that lists the names and CFC number for that charity. Im pretty sure CF is in there because I donated myself some years back. There is also such organizations such as heart and lung association that helps people in need of heart and lung transplants. I know, all in all they list over 1000 charities and non profit organizations that provide for those who cannot provide for themselves or for medical research.

I was thinkg abt this post since I read it and I have a totaly different idea. Most of the places mentioned for donation have big fund rasiers, they raise millions including the CF foundation. I am not sure what state you live in or what hosp. clinic you are affilidated with. We all know/well most that the CF part of hosp. usually is seperate from the rest. Why not find out how you can give that place a make over. Do some research on creating a new play area/TV room big flat screen TV, video system what kid doesn't play games these days? or even a adult area with a library new sofa comfortable seating for parents. Make it a place that is more stay over friendly for those hosp. stays. There is a show in NY on cable TV called HGVT I think it is on in other states as well. I am sure they would be interested in such a good casue. I always thought to myself if I ever came across a winning lottery ticket I was going to do that for St.Vincents in NY, after I sent the whole CF team on a vacation. Just a idea?

Windex,
That's a nice idea but I know at my clinic when we're in the hospital we're in isolation in our rooms and can only go to the play/rec room if no one else is in there. The only place we're really allowed to walk around/etc is outside the hospital. Last time I was in they had to clean my room cuz it was super dusty and I had to sit in the rec room while they cleaned. No one was allowed in, I had to wear a mask the whole time, and they put a sheet down on top of the couch for me to sit on, pretty depressing actually. I'm not sure how it is at other hositals but that's how it is here.

There are also other smaller organizations that help and support CFers, a number of us (myself/my organization included) are members here on this site. The CFF is great in the "big picture" of CF treatment and a cure someday, but they do very well financially. Doesn't hurt to keep us in mind!
