Soil!

How bad is it if a CFer swallows some soil? May sound like bit of a
weird question, but I took my daughters to the park this afternoon,
and my youngest with CF fell over. Luckily, she was fine, but
swallowed bit of soil, went in her mouth and nose!
Any advice?
Dirt has plenty of germs in it, but our skin and everything else have just as many so it's a bit of a sinkhole to worry about it. My 3 year old tot has had his share of dirt facials; I just clean him up and tell him to stop it (as if that has any effect).

DS has eaten sand, bubble gum, paper.... Chewed on grocery cart straps -- I always wipe down the handles and sides, but most recently he thinks it's funny to stick things in his mouth. Played with frogs and before I can wipe his hands off has dug for gold up his nose and eaten his boogies. Toddlers are soooo gross. My first instinct is to wash his mouth out with soap. I keep stressing to him, NOT to do that. Bleah! Short of putting him in a hazmet suit, I think we're doing the best we can. Would prefer he didn't do those things. Worry myself silly about them.... Argh!

I hear ya on tots putting gross things in their mouths! I caught my son with a ladybug in there once, ewww! I wouldn't worry yourself over some dirt in the mouth though.

Depends what's in the soil.....</end quote>

I haven't a clue what was in the soil - maybe that's not a bad thing though?!

Never mind. What's done is done.

I'm such an "over-the-top" germ-a-phob, so I can totally understand your concern. Imagine my horror when my son (3 years old at the time, w/CF) landed head first from a slide (mouth OPEN) into a pile of WORMS!!! (It had just rained the night before and there must have been 100 hundred earthworms beneath this slide - no joke). I helped him rinse his mouth out and kept wondering how I could disinfect his mouth!!! Good news is he was perfectly fine! My old CF doc used to always tell me our CF kids are stronger than we think sometimes. My guess is that your little guy will be just fine too.
