so i think I have read on here that allot of children on here started on solids at 4 months.. even though I did this with dd on my own I was wondering if it was dr. recommended or if everyone just made that choice and happened to be for allot of you?

I'd already started giving DS some fruit and veggies by the time he was 4-5 months old, as well as baby white grape juice. He HATED rice cereal so that was a no go. And he was almost 6 months old when Thanksgiving rolled around and I broke out the turkey baby food. He didn't appear to have any food allergy issues.

When DS was 6 months old we were told by his doctor to give him whatever we were eating. To skip the baby food route all together if at all possible because baby food is low in fat and sodium. I still bought baby food, but doctored it with butter and salt. At daycare they ground up whatever the bigger kids were having very finely. And I would grind up some things, a lot of times it would be convenient foods such as chicken ala king, beef stew, chunky soup... And LOTS of whole milk yogurt.

Formula was still his primary meal, so we'd usually start off with his bottle and then move to the table for some solids to make sure he still got enough nutrition.

Our doctor at the CF clinic had us feeding Ben food at 4 months. (It actually helped with his BMs)He is very hungry all the time and we try our best to fill him up. He currently is 5 months old and eats 40 ounces of formula a day mixed with 1 tsp. rice cereal per ounce and 3 jars of step 2 baby food. I almost feel guilty when we eat dinner around him because he just stares us down like he wants our food.

The dietician at our CF clinic told us not to start solids until 6 months. At 6 months we started with Rice Cereal.

She is now 9 months old and eats Stage 1, 2, and some Stage 3 foods.
