Ok so I was sitting around today thinking of cheap and easy things to add to my sinus douche and I started wondering about hydrogen peroxide. It's way cheap, and readily available.
Also, hydrogen peroxide is plain WATER (two molecules of hydrogen) with the only difference being it has two molecules of OXYGEN vs one molecule of oxygen in regular water. I knew this before reading up, which made me read up further.
Hydrogen peroxide kills bugs (its a strong germicide) by over oxygenating. Most bugs can't thrive in an overly oxygen rich environment. Of course if you start messing around with the stuff, you need a low percentage like 1-3% (regular store bought stuff is usually 3%).
Anyways I added a capful to my normal neilmed sodium nasal douche tonight, and my nose does indeed feel more open. So I took a few minutes and did some reading around. I found a few sites that recommend adding 10 drops or so to 500ml sodium rinse for nasal rinsing (thought my neilmed bottle is half that amount, and I used a little more than 10 drops i'd guess as the size of the cap seemed bigger).
So I found this site talking about the many therapeutic uses of hydrogen peroxide and glanced at it. There are articles from doctors on the site, and one guy said he had COPD and was inhaling the food grade stuff (apparently the safer stuff for ingestion is food grade stuff).
So I don't have time, but could you guys look at this stuff and let me know what you think/find? Inhaling the food grade stuff (if that is indeed safe, dunno) might not even benefit us on the principle of the lungs already being heavily oxygenated...Or maybe the ultra oxygenation of the stuff might kill our bugs anyways?
I would appreciate it if those with more time than I could look into:
#1 the safety/efficacy of using regular/food grade hydrogen peroxide for nasal rinses.
#2 the safety/efficacy of possibly inhaling the food grade hydrogen peroxide in whatever amount/dillution to benefit our problems (our lung bugs).
I just flat out don't have time to do the research I used to do for myself and you guys, so this would help me out. I think i'm gonna stuck to the nose douching with it, but inhaling the stuff would take more data to try.
(BTW some stuff on this website makes me want to put on my tinfoil hat, but the stuff on peroxide is neat)
