Somewhat overwhelmed...

For Jake and I, this foster care placement has been nothing less than overwhelming and draining. I'm so tired that I feel like I could sleep for a week straight if able. I have my second cold in 3 weeks which I usually only get 2 colds a year. My lungs are holding, but my weight is down about 4 pounds.

As many of you know, Jake and I originally decided to only do fost-to-adopt placements, and now I wish we would have stayed with that program only. These children are running me down, but I'll go into that more later.

We knew ALL TO WELL that these boys were/are STRICTLY foster care from the beginning, but we wanted to give them a chance and gain more experience with kids. Well, we surely got more than we ever could have imagined.

They are from Schuylkill County which NEVER terminates parental rights. NEVER! The ONLY way these children would EVER go up for adoption would be IF either BOTH parents passed away OR BOTH parents VOLUNTARY gave up their rights, which is VERY UNLIKELY. There are children that are fostered by the same foster parents for years and years because Schuylkill County won't terminate rights...That being said, it looks like this MIGHT be a future decision for Jake and I...We ultimately want to adopt, but we can't adopt OR have bio kids along with this placement.

The first court hearing is November 3rd. The Schuylkill County worker said that she is NOT requesting that the children be placed back with Mom. The next hearing will be in May. The father is uninvolved with the children. Mom should be in jail and has a criminal trial in November.

Jake and I are just trying to take one day at a time. Both boys are better than they were, but they have a longgggggg way to go. For example, they can't be trusted ALONE with other children because they 'try things'. The kicking and biting are starting to become a thing of the past; however, they EACH need 40-50 hours of therapy PER MONTH for various issues. They BOTH are behind educationally, and the county wants to place D in Early Intervention because he is nearly 5 and is to start kindergarden next fall. He can't read, write his name, or get his numbers straight. BOTH have been diagnosed with ADHD. They are to start meds soon for the hyperactivity. Some of the therapy starts next week along with a Mom visit. Next week will be crazy for me...

Jake and I agreed that this placement is too much for us, moreso me...Jake's 12-hour days with them by myself are the most draining. I can't even eat right. We are trying to hold on until the services start and pray for a miracle. We have had them nearly 3 weeks, and the services are just getting setup for next week.

They had their first Mom visit nearly 2 weeks ago. It was in the social services office and supervised. Apparently, the boys kicked, punched, spit on, and bit not only their Mom but also the caseworker. The experience was 'horrible' according to the caseworker. Heck the one boy even spat out cherry juice down her nice suit!!!

Please give me all the hugs you can because God knows I need them...Thank you!!!
