My son had a relatively easy time dealing with CF until 6th grade. He had frequent absences but was able to attend enough to complete work with the help of a tutor. In 7th grade he came home sick after the second day and was eventually diagnosed with the Human Parvo Vrus. This took weeks to get over. Then he tried to go b ack half days but felt ill then too. He tired to go back to school about 4 different times during the year and got ill each time (sinus infection, fever, different bugs). He was home tutored the whole year and did well grade wise. Then depression set in and his doctors excused him from the last quarter of school. We have been working on the depression and he went to school this past Tuesday (the first day). That evening he developed a fever nad diarrhea. He is just feeling better two days later. His doctor wants him to keep trying to go to school to give his body a chance to fight the germs. He is angry that people want him to go when he keeps getting sick. Any advice or similar circumstances?

how is his health in the summer time? the reason I ask is because could the stress of him not liking school be causing him to get sick? Do u think the depression was brought on my being made to attend school or not being able to go to school?

My guess is stress as well - stress hormones can wreak havoc on our bodies and cause clear physical symptoms! Viruses have an incubation period and if he is coming home sick after 1 or 2 days then the illnesses aren't something he is picking up at school. Maybe he could use some counseling to help him deal with the depression and stress. But honestly if he were my child and he was happy being home schooled then that is what I would do. There are home school groups all over the US and you probably have one nearby. Then you could get together with them a few times a week and he could still have lots of peer contact and activities w/o the stress of attending mainstream school.

I know lots of people who home school and our local home school group plans field trips, park days, art classes, music classes, etc. They get together all the time.

I am just wondering if there is something in the classroom or building that bothers him.

Our school is old & the librarian was dismissed from her position because she was out for health reasons. She swears (and is suing over her dismissal) that its from the library after a flood.

Now I dont know if there has to be a flood for someone to have issues, but its a thought just in case you can think of anything.

Otherwise I would definitely say nerves!!!
