Speaking of Insurance...what about HMO's??

I know that there are alot of posts going on about Insurance issues. But i was wondering if anyone has had any problems with HMO plans? We are probably going to switch to Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO and i am so spoiled b/c we were with United PPO and we could go anywhere and they were completely looking out for us and Brinly's needs. I know each plan and company are different but i am just wondering if it is worth the headache to save $3000.00 a year??

Thanks for any input!

We have Kaiser in Southern California. So far I have been happy with their CF care (although getting regular DR appts and such can be a pain). The medications are covered, the only problem we have is that my husbands employer did not choose a plan that included durable medical equipment. So when it is time for a vest, it will not be covered. Also, they have centralized all there CF care in So Calif to one location, Panarama City near Burbank. I think they can give better care that way but we have to drive over 100 miles one way to the CF center. But, so far its been good.

You need to check into further details of the HMO plan you are considering. Everything from the doctor to the hospital to if there is a $$ limit or quantity limit on meds as well as if durable medical equipment is covered. There are so many things to consider with CF even if you havent encountered it yet. How long would you have to stay with the HMO should you switch? I ask in case it ends up being a problem. My husband has the option of changing plans once a year, but since I have been with him we have stuck to the same plan which is PPO. It would be cheaper to go with another, but too much hassle about assuring if everything would be covered. When I am sick I dont think well & cant be bothered with the extra thought that it takes with certain insurance. We are fortunate to not have to worry about the cost difference tho.
