spreading germs

I have a problem. I have developed a horrible cold with an even nastier cough. I'm talking uncontrollable coughing. How do I keep my CF kid from catching this thing? I went to the Dr. yesterday hoping to get some meds. to kick it as fast as possible, but because my lungs were clear and there was no fever they sent me home with nothing, said it was viral and to let it run it's course. I did tell them that my daughter has CF, but still no help. Now I look like and insane woman running around the house with a can of lysol in one hand and a hanky in the other to cover my cough. Help!!! I feel like I need a bubble for her or me. Is there anything I can do to reduce the risk of spreading this thing? I feel like I can't breath, I can only imagine what it would do to her is she got it.

Try your best, but you may not be able to keep it to yourself. That happens sometimes with colds/flus, etc.

Whenever my fiance comes over with a new cold or something, I lick his face, so I get it right out of the way. I'm not saying your daughter should lick your face... hahaha. That's just my insane approach. Point is, she may get it anyway. *shrug* And it'll suck, but she'll get over it.

Here is a germ spreading story any germaphobic will love. I was at a CF education day on Wednesday with my husband. Of course I was trying to be aware of touching stuff and using purel. What does my lovely husband do...he take a big swig out of my water glass. I guess it is no different than giving him a kiss. I can imagine what others were thinking.

I freak every time DH or I get sick and this winter was no exception and DS was healthier than both of us.

I got bronchitis and I wore a mask, washed my hands & purelled constantly kept ds from drinking out of my glass, disinfected everything... He had to wear a mask, too thought it was cool. I'd also awaken from my coma-nap to find him laying on my head and giving me puppy kisses -- LICKING my face, too.

DH got a nasty stomach virus -- DS drew pictures of DH "Bomitting in the toilet".

Then I hear rotavirus and 5th's disease are going around DS' preschool. He's the only one who doesn't get the rotavirus. DH gets sick again -- I'm thinking it's 5th's disease 'cuz of a rash, fever, aches -- no, DH whose been vaccinated AND also had the measles as a child... came down with Rubella (german measles).

A week later the preschool director pointed to DS's rosy cheeks and said "write this one down in his baby book, he's got 5ths disease". No other symptoms, just looked like he'd been slapped.

I am really delighted to hear this. Most doctors cave to pressure from patients, but your doctor is wise.

Your doc could have given you the strongest antibiotic on the planet, and it still would have done 0 for your virus.

Antibiotics don't work on viruses, whether you have a kid with CF or not.

You are exactly right about the antibiotics and viruses, I didn't want a drug for something that it could not help. I am doubting the virus diagnosis and mentioning the kid with cf was meant to make the Dr. more thorough. I will probably have to go back since I have started having sinus issues and am coughing up GREEN gunk. I am not a Dr. but I know my body and I don't think this is a virus. I will wait my week to 10 days and let it run it's course, but I don't think it will leave me on it's own. For now I guess it's purell and lysol to the rescue.
