sputum/throat cultures???

Does anyone do anything for your young ones before a throat culture? to make sure that they are not just getting whatever is hanging around in their mouths.
I was thinking of having Ethan take a drink of water and then let up a good cough before the culture as he still doesn't understand the spitting out thing.

I think with the age, it's really hard to get them to spit. Last year, when DS was 4, the RT hooked DS up to a vest and had him neb hypertonic saline. We could HEAR a really good sample coming up, unfortunately, we couldn't get DS to spit it out. It "tasted to good" --- cringe. His last appointment, we tried again, but there wasn't anything to bring up, so both times they resorted to doing a throat culture again.
