SSDI Question

Julie,

I'm hoping maybe you have an answer for me as well. Right after Bek was diagnosed, her father applied for SSI for her and he told me that it was denied because we made too much money. (I can only take his word with a grain of salt). I didn't have him appeal it. Later, I was told by her caseworker that I should be able to get SSI for her so I tried filing for it. After a few months I got a letter in the mail saying that her disability isn't a disease that they consider disabling enough to keep her from working in the future. Should I have appealed? If so, can you help me get the filing started again? I know I won't be able to get any back pay for her since I didn't appeal, but it would be nice to get something going for her if possible.

Thank you.

Robin,
I wanted to write this as an encouragement, and I hope that you see it that way.

When I was born in 1976, my parents believed that I would never live long enough to graduate from high school. I graduated from high school, graduated from college, got married, adopted one child, had a second child and have been teaching middle school for ten years. Thirteen years from now, your daughter will have even more potential, because of all the new treatments that are coming out. Anyway, file for SSI if you want, but I just wanted to give you hope that she may not need it by the time she reaches adulthood.

P.S. There are many adult CFers that work or have worked. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
