SSI Benefits questions

I'm a 18 1/2 year-old that lives at home with both parents. I'm no longer a student and have no job, savings,or own a car for that matter . I live and rely completley off of my parents. I have been doing my research about SSI and have been trying to figure out if I should even apply or if I will be disqualified even though I have no income but am supported by my parents above limit income. I just don't know if it will be a big hassle to try and figure it out . My question is I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who was in a similar situation and qualifed to receive benefits. I would love to hear about it and the steps you took to qualify. Also, I would like to know how involved your DR. was if any after you aplied. My current and wonderful DR. is big on my "Independence" and doesn't like the idea of me getting government support just so I can have some money of my own, even though I am presently unable to work even part-time. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!

Marlene I live in Missouri I am 23 and I worked full time for 4 years and quit because my lungs could not take it. And I told my doc. and the docs. filled out some paperwork and we sent it in to the state and then they call u and u have a telephone interview with a social worker . I did not have any problems I applied in Apr. 05 and I was getting back pay by Sept of 05. But that is not sayin it will be that easy for u I mean I think there are alot of people that have had a hard time gettin SSI but it was easy for me. That is just kinda how it went for me but I would atleast try once just to see what happens that is my oppioin on it.....

I live in California, and when that time came for me where I couldn't work my doctor started the process with the paperwork. It is a long grueling process. Some of the people at the SSI office treat you like you are a loser. There is much paperwork to fill out, and lots of it is repetative... I assume it's because they want to make sure you you say consistant in the process. Maybe that's just California for you... but if you are 18 1/2 then you are a legal adult who should be qualified to receive SSI regarding who you live with.
