I was wondering about SSI.. i have a 2 (almost 3) year old daughter with CF and got denied for SSI.. but i was wondering if i should appeal it? I'm not really sure how they work all that stuff out, and if it depends on how bad their condition is or really what i should do. I am also not a very persistant person and didn't give them a whole lot of information, but they did get all her doctor things. Thanks for anyone who can help me out <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

It is always better to keep appealing, because then if they do finally agree to qualify her, they will go back to the original application date and back-pay you.

I don't have first hand knowledge of what qualifies a person with CF, but I do know it is is print somewhere. You might try posting in the adult section - I know many people are more educated about it than I am. But I'm pretty sure there are qualifiers like how many hospital stays per year and PFT numbers etc. Perhaps if you can find that criteria, it would give you a good idea as to whether or not you should continue to pursue it at this point or if you need to wait several more years down the road.

APPEAL! I don't want to scare you but it took my mom 5 and 7 years respctively to get me and my brother on SSI when were kids. Then when I was 14 or 15 we both got booted off for being "too healthy". The point is though, they almost always deny your claim if they can. I would seriously suggest consulting a Social Security lawyer. My brother is currently trying to get on it again and is using an attorney. I am still too healthy because I can hold down a full time job.

NEVER reapply. Always appeal, appeal, appeal. They really count on you giving up. If you do an advance search on this forum, you will find a few threads that speak of peoples battles for SSI & SSDI. It might give you more insight. Good Luck!
