Starting solids

We'll be starting solid foods with Emily in a few weeks. She actually gets rice cereal once a day with some applesauce mixed in, but we are eager to branch out. Both our family ped. and our cf nutritionist are ok with it, so why not? I know we want to start with the highest calorie stuff, so fruits before veggies (That is so counterintuitive to my mom instinct, but that's feeding a cfer for ya!) Our docs suggested that we start with bananas since they're the highest calorie. What have you been told, or what did you do?

The babyfoods we started with and that DS liked was bananas, pears, think there was a pineapple one. Jarred oatmeal with pears. Sweet potatoes and squash.

When DS was 6 months old his doctor told us to skip over baby food 'cuz babyfood was low in fat and sodium. Told us to grind up what we were eating. DS had a few texture issues -- didn't like ground meat. We'd grind up spagetti, hot dish, tuna casserole, chicken ala king, stew. He also loved bean soup and brocolli cheese soup. We gave him yogurt, too. Yo Baby.

Because he gagged when we'd try some textures, we still gave him baby food. He loved stage 2 mac & cheese, turkey & chicken -- not beef. Babyfood oatmeal with pear (tasted like apple crisp). Sweet potatoes and corn. We'd just add a little butter and salt to the babyfood. We also gave him lots of baby food fruit & veggies. Loved the orange food group and green beans.

He hated anything with peas in it -- good find a pea a mile away. Also, he never ever liked rice cereal.

My daughter (no CF) didnt eat much jarred food. She had a little of the fruits, but was more interested in what we ate. So when she was old enough we started giving her baby verison of what we ate. My husband gave her bones to chew on when she was teething. That I wasnt impressed with because I kept saying she wasnt a dog, but she loved it. Hasst stopped eating since. She was delivered 4 weeks early & healthy, but a wee thing of only 5 lbs 2.5 oz. She gained her weight with NO problem! Just from formula & sharing our foods~!
