As with most CF infections, you can't get rid of stenotrophomonas. I have it also, have taken Bactrim a lot and am unfortunately resistant to it now. Usually when I need to be treated, my doctor sends a sputum culture for synergy testing, which tries different combinations of antibiotics to see if any combination is more effective than another. Good luck!

I have cultured more than one strain of steno since Feb '04 and have not been able to get rid of it. It is very resistant and Bactrim is usually (not always) the antibiotic of choice for treating it.

GL!!

Original poster here and this is really going to freak some of you w/ stenotrophomonas out, but do you ever notice the sensation of bugs crawling on your skin or feel pin prick type pain that quickly goes away?
The reason I ask is my aunt has a skin condition that we believe to be Morgellons Disease. One online Dr from a research organization suspects that the skin disease originates due to a bacteria called Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. Of course, we culture it in sputum, which could be a whole different ball of wax. I hope it is. Also, I have to say that the doctor may be way off his rocker here too.
I told you this would freak you out, but had to ask if any of you experience this? I'm just looking for answers for my aunt.
