Steroids/Inhaler

Hello,
My daughter has had a cough on and off for a couple months. Antibiotics are not really helping, and her chest sounds clear and looks clear on the x-ray. At clinic yesterday the doctor thought she was wheezing, and her cough sounded like someone with ashthma. We are trying for five days an inhaler and steroids. Today under her eyes the skin is really red and kind of puffy. Has anyone experienced this? I think the cough actually sounds a little better, but I'm worried about this red skin that it is a bad reaction to one of the two. The Walgreens handout is not providing any help and since it is Friday night I won't get the dr. but a fellow on the phone who does not know my child one bit. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated!!!

Thanks,

That's what they are trying to figure out. My husband has asthma, and since Kate has CF the doctor thought that she might have it too. They thought she sounded wheezy and her cough sounded a bit like a bark. So that is why they are trying five days on the steroids and inhaler to see if we see a change. If no change, we are going to try a month on an antibiotic. And if that doesn't work she has to get admitted. I am PRAYING that something works and we don't have to do the hospital, especially with all the bad bugs going around this year. I have been pretty stressed since clinic because now I am so focused on the fact that she may be getting admitted in a month.

Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on a stressful situation. I would have to say however that most often the best knowledge is a mother's knowledge and her intuition. If it doesn't look right, feel right, or sound right...keep following up. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
