Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can stop drinking soda? I have Cystic Fibrosis Related Type One Diabetes and soda is the worst thing for me but I feel like I am addicted to the sugar. I am trying to get my Hymoglobin A1C down to improve my health and I need all the help I can get. Thanks

I recently had to cut sugar out of my diet and I thought soda was going to be my downfall. But I found that using seltzer water or club soda along with some of the Mio water flavoring was just as good as soda, but without the sugar. Hope this helps!

Soda is really bad! I cant stand it! I have been trying to have more water because I just got rid of a kidney stone. I bought a glass container on ebay and I have been cutting up lemon slices. I put the water in the glass container, add the lemon slices, add a couple mint sprigs, and a pinch of dried lavender. Put in the fridge for about 30 mins to an hour. The water tastes amazing, I am so addicted! I think you just need to come to terms that soda isn't worth it. It is bad for you in every way. It doesn't nothing to quench thirst. It actually makes you more thirsty. If you are focusing on soda, you are less focusing on water which is vital to the lungs. Also we are prone to kindney stones, thrust me, you don't want one of those! Natural is the way to go, give you body what it needs to help with the CF instead of hurting it.

Commit & Replace.
Decide to make the change.
Be true to yourself about excuses, justifications and rationalizations for backsliding.
Don't let small mistakes turn into throwing in the towel.
Identify big triggers/craving moments and have a plan. (Hot day, family BBQ...bring a six pack of seltzer)
Get addicted to one or two other, harmless things, for example ginger tea and seltzer.
Congratulate yourself and be proud of yourself when you get past milestones or hard-triggers.

Good luck! I've given up a couple things in my 38 yrs. That's my personal-experience advice for you.

Yep, this is just one of those things where you have to bite the bullet and cut soda out.
But it's easier than you might think. Personally it took me just a few days to get used to drinking water and so I drink lots of it and I like it. It's cleansing. Once you get used to the idea of water you might even stop seeing the point of wanting to drink flavoured crap in the first place. That, and less gas and a ballooning stomach..should be plenty of motivation.

Do a diet log and write everything down. If yoy do good at the end of the week, reward yourself but not with soda. have accountibity. Challenge yourself to drinking one or two sodas per day. Use the crystal light flavored package in your soda.
