Supplements

I have been wanting to expand my supplement intake and want to do some research to decide what to take but thought I would see what everyone else takes as a starting point. SO...

What do you take & brief explanation of why (if you have a reference or link that is even better but not necessary)
Also curious if your CF docs are aware and approve or scoff it.
Are you taking them or have taken them while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Thanks alot!

My doctors suggested, and I drink, the Nestle Carnation Instant breakfast VHC(very high cal.) drinks. I'm signed up with the Creon "More Extra Helpings" program so they send me a box when I refill my enzymes.

For a while there I drank Boost Plus (also suggested by my doctor), they are very tasty, easy to throw in a bag and carry with you, I would down one backstage before a show to help with burned calories. But Boost Plus is quite expensive, which was not good for the poorly paid dancer I was. However, if you can't get your hands on the Nestle VHC drinks, my doctors had like BOOKS of coupons for the Boost Plus drinks, and tons of samples they would load me up with when ever I had a checkup, I would ask then about it next time you see them.

I haven't done any breastfeeding as of yet, but I'll certainly let you know what I find out if I ever do

I take quite a few things, all recommended and approved by my GP and CF docs.

Fever Few- its an herb, its good for inflamation so it helps with my arthritis and chronic headaches.
Magnesium- also for headaches.
Garlic- basically considered the wonder drug of the suppliment world, among tons of other things it helps fight bacteria almost like an antibiotic, great immune system booster. You can get capsules now that don't taste/smell as bad as they used to.
St. John's Wart- for depression.
Calcium and Vit. D- for my bones of course.
Vit E- I have always had trouble keeping a good vit. E level. I take 800 IU twice a day not to mention what is in my multi vit.
Centrum Silver- I take the silver because it has a lower amount of iron than the regular, too much iron and I get evil heart burn, the dietician at the CF clinic told me to use these.

I take all of these according to the dosing recomendations on the pakages, except I take double the calcium, vit E and D on the recommendation of my CF docs. I take a handful (literally) of pills twice a day. But I feel (and look) better when I do, its worth it.

My son drinks ScandiShakes.......600 calories in a 10 ounce strawberry shake. (it comes in chocolate and vanilla) I have tasted his strawberry shake and it is yummy!
His Dr. has cut him off of regular juice (he will drink it all day long.......making him full) He has to drink Resource Breeze juices by Boost. They are 250 calories in a juice box.
