SUSHI

This isn't CF related, just pregnancy related.
I want sushi soooo much. I just read ten different articles on the danger/lack of danger of eating sushi while pregnant. Overall, it seems if you stay away from the mercury-rich fish, the raw thing shouldn't really be an issue. It's like a one in millions chance that you'll get a parasite that will sap you of your vital nutrients... It's more likely I'm going to get a parasite by undercooking chicken at home.... But STUPID me, I can't help but fall for all the fear-mongering out there: Sushi is BAD! Raw fish will make you sick! Raw fish was my first solid food as a baby! I've been eating it my whole life and never been sick, and here I am letting the culture of fear that is just so prevalent in this country keep me from one of the healthiest food choices I can make while pregnant. I am depriving my unborn child of vital omega fats from fish that help the brain.

GRRRRR!!! So many things to be afraid of:
*Baths are too hot and will cook you
*Riding a bike is dangerous because you might fall
*Don't drink too much tea, because you don't know what those herbs will do to you
*Don't exercise on your back
*Don't use acne face was because although there is no evidence it is harmful, you just never know

I am just frustrated. Sorry. Had to vent.

geesh seems your pretty passionate about your sashimi. just eat it after all what do you think the women in japan do?? Certainly they eat raw fish right? although their fish is a heck of a lot more clean than ours I would imagine. Is it possible for you to buy fish whole and prepare it yourself? If not maybe you can quickly sear the exterior leaving it raw inside. american obgyn is nuts and judging from our sucky infant mortality rate I would take everything they say with a grain of salt. Search "birth plan" under the prego section for more on that note.

I can't believe WINE isn't on your list :)

What about eating cooked fish? Not as good - but could you find a recipe that uses soy sauce, wasabi and seaweed to make it more sushi-like?

And wine will definitely be on my list! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I ate Cali-rolls, spider rolls & shrimp tempura while pregnant. I also had shrimp cocktail a few times. My daughter is 8 months old and is perfectly fine : )

I also drank diet soda ALL the time (i have CF diabetes) and that has lots of caffeine in it too.

Hmmmmmm what else did i do that is "bad" while pregnant??? I slept on my right side all the time, and i also drank iced tea/hot tea!!

if i think of more i'll let u know <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
