sweat test level question

My 10 year old daughter did the sweat test yesterday and the level came back 44. They need to redo the test. Is this a common thing? What were the levels of your children? I'm happy it is 44 and not 54 or more, but still....HELP, please, I'm really scared.

Thanks,
Mary Ellen

Below 40 is negative for CF. 40-60 is borderline. 60+ indicates CF. They re-do sweat tests very often. I've known people to have 4 or 5. One question... is your daughter having her tests at an accredited CF center? Because if not, I would switch. Doctors, no matter how smart, don't know what they're doing when it comes to anything regarding CF (including the sweat test)... and often either test wrong or read the results wrong.

She is having it done in the children's hospital where her endocrinologist is. They seem to know what they are doing there.

Do what you like, but if it comes back borderline again... Or if it's negative, but your child is still sick... try a CF center. Most people here will agree that CF centers are the best (and really, the only) places to do CF testing.

I need to jump on Emily's little "bandwagon". When she was born, at two days of age, she was at a really good hospital, but the idiot treating her told me...."we may have waited too long to treat her". At that point, she was moved to an accredited CF Center for surgery and care. No one can ever stress how IMPORTANT it is to get testing and care at an ACCREDITED CF CARE CENTER. It may seem stupid to you if you are at a good hospital, but it is very important.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to go next week with her and if it is still inconclusive (and I guess even if it's positive) I will get to a CF center. I really wasn't even aware that there was such a thing.
