Hello Everyone,

My name is Michelle and I'm new to this forum and I would like to find out some information.

My daughter just received test results for my grandson regarding a sweat test that he had done on Wed., November 7, 2007. If I am reading the results correctly his Sweat Chlorida is 125, what does this mean??

My grandsons doctor hasn't dealt with this much and I'm trying to find out what steps I need to take now.

Anyone who can give me a better perspective, I would appreciate it!!

Hi Michelle, and welcome to the site. Unfortunately, a sweat test number that high is considered positive. Depending on your insurance, they will probably want to do another sweat test, because they like to have 2 pos tests before they will pay for the genetic testing. Genetic testing is a blood draw to be sent to a genetics lab. They will be looking for known CF mutations. Be sure and INSIST on the full panel screening. A lot of times they will only test for the 40 most common, then add more and so on.

If your doc isn't experienced with this, I would get another doc. I would take the child to a certified CF clinic. They know what they are doing. Obviously your grandson has some issues that prompted this test. The sooner you get the answers, the sooner you can correctly treat his symptoms.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. All of us here have been where you are. We know how frustrating it is. This site is an awesome place for information and support. Nobody wants to hear their child/grandchild has this disease. However, once he is dx'd, he can get the proper care, and that can greatly improve his quality of life. Let us know what you find out.

Stacey,

Thank you for your quick reply. This is just all so frustrating and could have been avoided had the hospital done his testing, as order, at birth. Someone at the hospital canceled it and now we are having to deal with all of this now. My grandson could have been receiving treatment from the beginning not three months later.

I've already contacted the certified CF testing center and I am getting Seth, my grandson, in there ASAP.

Again, thank you.
