Sweat

Hi, Just a quick question.... I know that sweat is always an issue for dehydration etc., but my daughter seems to sweat easily and will wake in the a.m. soaking. Do others with CF notice that they sweat more easily or is that just her body type?Just curious )

Hi, I too have noticed that my son does the same thing. He too sweats alot! I do try to give him extra fluids and do offer him food that have salt in them. But is that enough? What about Gatoraid?

I do the Gatorade and salt thing with her as well. They just did some routing blood work and said her salt levels are good, but they are usually low in CF patients. With that said I guess it is enough, at least for now.

My daughter, every since she was a wee baby, has been a furnace. She sweats a ton, especially during nap time and at night. During the day, i just give her popcicles, water, and chips to help keep her hydrated and replenish the salt. Our CF clinic advised to offer pedialyte (because my daughter is only 2) as well on really hot days or if we are outside for an extended amount of time.good luck.Christiemommy to twins malachi wocf and mylee wcf

I too give my daughter lots of extra salt...I add salt to her foods, like mashed potatoes, corn, fries, the normal foods and use butter rather than margarine. (butter with salt added)In the summer I sometimes add salt to her drinks, enough to be effective, but not enough to change the taste too much.As the children grow older and their salt levels decrease.....they can get salt tablets. My daughter is 7 (almost 8) and does not require the salt tablets yet. Just keep adding the salt and butter to your childrens meals and snacks.....you're doing them good

Ever since I can remember, I've loved salt. I salt anything I eat to where if I'm in public, people stare. I don't give a damn, it tastes good! Anyhow, I've never needed salt tablets because I do salt everything I eat so much. So if you keep salting the kids' food, you'll probably be fine.

To keep dehydration at bay this summer, push the Gatoraid. It has sodium in it and is super benificial for CFers just as it is for athletes. It is important to replenish the sodium lost in sweat. Debbie23 w/ CF
