Sweating the SWEAT TEST

Hello Everyone! I ironically ran acrossed this page when I was doing research on CF. I got some of my best info from you all and I thank you. I have a 13 month old that was just recently dx with Asthma. The Pulmonologist felt there were quite a few concerns for further testing. So, needless to say if there a few factors I want to rule it out! We go for our sweat test on Wed. My question is how long before I know the results? I think my husband and I have worried so much we just are ready to know and deal with whatever~ I don't care I just need to know! They haven't told us what to expect as for as the result time frame! Hopefully someone can clue us in!
Thanks to all of you! I know that no matter what the results I have learned so much about the disorder that I will always put you in my daily prayer! God Bless!

Don't quote me on it but when i had the sweat test done it seems that the results took a couple of days. i remember asking them ( i was in the hospital) when i'd get the results back. I think it really annoyed them, lol.

Where we live they do a screening test first, the test takes 20 min and the results are automatic. If this tests above 60 they do an advanced test and collect sweat, this takes 30 min and the results come back in a day or 2. Both tests are completely non invasive. Good luck!

Yeah, ours were automatically ready after the twenty minute test. They didn't actually allow the technician to tell us the dx, of course, but she said the number, so we knew.

It's possible to get it on the same day - just depends on their policy and procedure & the doctor's schedule. Most of the time it is the next day.

If you have time, please read my blog about sweat test numbers just in case your daughter scores in the 30's. My daughter was misdiagnosed with "asthma" because her sweat test was "normal" but we later found out with genetic testing that she indeed does have CF, so if she does happen to get a "normal" reading but continues to show symptoms of CF - be sure to follow up with FULL genetic testing (make sure they don't want to do just a screening)

Between both my daughters we have had at least 6 sweat tests (when we changed clinics they repeated the sweat tests, not sure why because the numbers were so high there was no question, and both girls had already had genetic testing and we knew their mutations) but anyway, in all of those tests I never had to wait very long for a result. I think the longest we were ever told to wait was 3 hours and that was basically to allow time for the technician to get the results to the dr and the dr to call me. So, I think if they are making you wait longer than that, I'd ask why. There shouldn't be any reason to wait more than a few hours. There is enough stress already when having these kind of things done, that to make you wait overnight is just cruel (unless you have the test at like 5:00 in the evening or something of course).

Good luck.
